General Information The Municipal offices are located on the west side of Route 7 in the village. (third drive on the right, south of the traffic light) A Town of Shelburne sign is located near the entrance. Within the complex is located the Town Clerk/Treasurer, Town Manager, Tax Collector, Town Planner/Zoning Coordinator, Town Assessor, Parks & Recreation and Water Department and Sewer Department. The Police Department is located in the same building in the east wing. The Fire Station is the large brick building next to the office complex with the three large red doors. The Rescue Department is located on Harbor Road across from Davis Park. It is next to the Highway Department also located on Harbor Road. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 - 4:30. Newspapers There is one local newspaper in Shelburne. The Shelburne News is published once a week and is distributed free to all town residents. Other newspapers, with area news include the Burlington Free Press (published daily and available for 50 cents per edition), Seven Days, Vermont Times, and Vox. All newspapers mentioned above are available at the Shelburne Supermarket. Notary Publics The services of Notary Publics are available at the Town Clerks office during regular office hours. There are also Notary Publics at the dispatch desk in the Police Department on duty 24 hours a day. There is no charge for this service. Pierson Library The Pierson Library is located in the building previously used as the town offices on Route 7 in Shelburne next to the new Town Offices complex. Use of the Library is available to all town residents free of charge. Library hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday 10 AM to 5 PM, Tuesday & Thursday 2 PM to 7:30 PM and Saturday 10 AM to 3 PM, Pre-school storyhours are on Mondays at 10:30 AM and Tuesdays at 6:30 PM. Public Meetings Notices of upcoming committee and commission meetings are posted each week in three places around Shelburne, one of those places being the foyer of the Town Offices. Notices of meetings are also regularly sent to both the Burlington Free Press and the Shelbume News. Public Records Many documents are available for public inspection. The Shelburne Town Offices publishes a list of the public records that are available as well as the custodian for each type of record. The list is available at the town offices. Trinity Episcopal Church 985.2269. The Vermont Zen Center 985.9746. Rubbish Removal & Recycling The Town has no landfill or recycling facilities. You must contract with a private hauler for rubbish removal. A list of haulers may be found in the telephone book yellow pages under "Rubbish". If you prefer, you may take your rubbish and recycling to drop-off centers. The Chittenden Solid Waste District operates seven drop-off sites around Chittenden County. Recycling bins are provided to Chittenden County residents free of charge, and are available at the Town Manager's Office during office hours. The Chittenden Solid Waste District (CSVVD) has recently published a booklet entitled The Guide to Trash Disposal and Recycling Services. This booklet is available from either the Town Clerk's Office, or the Town Manager's Office as well as CSWD. If you have general questions about recycling, please call the Solid Waste District at 872.8111. Casella Waste Management operates a privately, owned and operated drop-off site on Pine Street in Burlington, VT. For information about their requirements please call them in Burlington at 862.1900. Schools, Public & Private There are six schools in Shelburne, the Shelburne Community School is public and the other five are private. They are the Heartworks School, preschool and pre-kindergarten at 985.2153. The Lake Champlain Waldorf School grades 1 through 8 at 985.2827. The Renaissance School, grades Kindergarten through 8, at 985.2153. The Shelburne Community School, grades 1 through 8 at 985.3331, and the Gailer School, at 985.1287. The Shelburne Craft School holds classes in jewelry making, paper making, painting, pottery, weaving, and woodworking at 985.3648. The Shelburne Nursery School, Preschool and kindergarten at 985.3993. Shelburne Community School Board The Shelburne School Board meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. These meetings are usually conducted in the Shelburne Town Center conference room on the third floor.
