Police Communications:

A majority of the radio and telephone activity received by the Shelburne Communications Center (SCC) are generated by the Police Departments.  In 2009, the SCC dispatched 4,329 calls for service and processed 4,008 Traffic Stops.  These calls for service ranged from Alarms, Assaults, Burglaries, Domestics Violence, Drug Violations, Frauds, Intoxicated Individuals/Drivers, Motor Vehicle Crashes, Thefts and Vandalism.

The SCC offers other services to the Police Departments, including clerical assistance, processing paperwork and is the Chittenden County Holding Station for Abuse Prevention Orders.  Working closely with the Vermont Family Court System and Police Departments, the ECT enters, modifies and processes requests for copies or clarifications of these orders.

All ECT's are trained in Police Communications, Domestic Violence, Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and National Crime Information Center (NCIC) computer systems.  These trainings are provide by the SCC, Vermont Enhanced 9-1-1 Board and the Vermont Criminal Justice Training Council.  This training provides the ECT with the knowledge required to properly process police related calls utilizing the Board's Police Manual.  The Police Manual is divided into common police call types.  Once the ECT has identified the call type, specific Police Questions will be asked and appropriate Pre-Arrival Instruction will be offered to the caller.  All information obtained from the caller will be relayed to the Police Officers responding.

This training also provides the ECT with the skills needed to utilize the various computer systems to access Law Enforcement Information.  This information includes CAD, Motor Vehicle and NCIC records relating to Wanted/Missing Person Broadcasts, Stolen Property, Abuse Prevention Orders and Criminal History information.
