Town Plan Update This page provides links to Shelburne Comprehensive Plan, which was prepared by the Planning Commission after nearly three years’ work. The Town Plan consists of two primary volumes, an extensive series of maps, and an appendix. The Plan includes a number of changes to the Town’s Future Land Use map. In preparing the updated plan, the Planning Commission has made considerable effort to gain public input. Participation came in a variety of ways, including: • A one and one-half day community event known as “STAT” (Shelburne Today and Tomorrow), to which more than 100 people contributed in May of 2003 by brainstorming ideas and organizing priorities; • A community wide public opinion survey with 525 respondents; results were tabulated by the Vermont Center for Rural Studies (at UVM) in October of 2003. • Numerous Public Town Plan work sessions and hearings, as well as special events such as the Spring 2005 public forum on the update of the Shelburne Village Plan, “Data Night” (an hour of overheads, tables and discussion in January of 2003, conducted in order that the update of the Town Plan would recognize demographic trends in Shelburne), “GIS Night” (a presentation of demographic, economic and especially environmental information on February of 2003), and a presentation on the regional “build-out” analysis; • Publicity through preparation of numerous articles printed in the Shelburne News on topics including local demographic trends and the results of the opinion survey; • Numerous Work sessions and public meetings held in conjunction with the development of the Shelburne Open Space Plan in the Spring of 2003, including a visioning session and prioritization exercise; and • The “PLACE Program,” sponsored by UVM and Shelburne Farms, which included three public presentations focused upon the area’s geology, the built environment, and our flora and fauna stressing birds; each of the evening presentations were accompanied by at least three associated field work sessions. Public hearing on the plan were conducted by the planning commission and the selectboard. The selectboard adopted the plan after the close of public the hearing on January 9, 2007. The version of the plan to be discussed by the selectboard on January 9 (see related links box above) reflects changes suggested by the planning commission. These suggestions respond to comments made at selectboard hearings held during the summer of 2006. Maps Questions about the draft plan should be submitted to Dean Pierce, AICP, Director of Planning and Zoning, 5420 Shelburne Road, PO Box 88, Shelburne, VT 05482. Electronic submissions are encouraged. Please direct email to dpierce@shelburnevt.org.
