 YOUTH PROGRAMS: SPRING 2010

ARC BABYSITTING CLASS
This class is great for future babysitters, but also provides excellent safety training for any youth who may be home alone! This American Red Cross certified class covers growth and development, toy selection, safety issues, and basic first aid. Participants will receive a text book, emergency reference guide, and a CD Rom of useful tools and games to take home. Bring a lunch or snack. Min. 6, Max. 15. For ages 11 and up.
 
Registration Deadline: Mon., Mar. 15
Dates: Wed. & Thurs, March 17-18
(1/2 days of school due to conferences)
Time: 12-3 PM (early arrival after school is O.K.)
Location: Town Center Activity Room

JUNIOR INTRODUCTION TO GOLF
Join Mike Bailey, PGA Professional, to learn the fundamentals of a game that can be played for a lifetime. Instruction will be offered on putting, chipping, pitching, sand play, and the full swing. Proper golf etiquette and good sportsmanship will be strongly promoted. Clubs can be provided for those who need them. Min. 3; Max. 10 students/ class. Location: Kwiniaska Golf Practice Center.

YOUNG REMBRANDTS
After School Program:  Summer is Coming!
Join Young Rembrandts this spring and get ready for summer! In this session, we will use both drawings and cartoon creations to wet our appetites for summertime. Our pictures will include scenes from summer camp, friends swimming and enjoying the great outdoors, beach and shore drawings and so much more. As always, we will learn excellent foundational drawing skills and practice both marker and color pencil technique. Join us and get ready for summertime!
 
Grades: 1st – 5th
Time: 2:40-3:40 PM
Dates: Mondays, March 29–May 24 (no class 4/26)

BOATER SAFETY COURSE
This basic course is offered by the Vermont State Police and is REQUIRED by Vermont law for all power boat operators on Vermont waters who were born after January 1st, 1974. Instruction will include topics on boat handling, navigation and safety requirements. It is recommended for anyone 12 years of age and older. Schedule unavailable at time of print. Please call office for updates.
 
 
GIRLS' ON THE RUN
Girls on the Run is a non-profit organization dedicated to educating and preparing girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living. The program is open to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade girls.

Time: 3:00—4:00 PM
Fee: $70.00
Registration: Max. 15 girls. Forms available at
SCS and Shelburne Recreation office.

SHOTOKAN KARATE
All classes taught by Brandon Hier.
Classes will be held at the Shelburne Town Gym.
 
FAMILY KARATE
This program will help children develop their self-esteem, focus their energy and develop character while learning safety techniques and awareness skills through basic Shotokan Karate Techniques. Focus will be placed on developing hand-eye coordination, balance and mental focus, leadership and partnership skills,setting and obtaining goals and building self-confidence. In addition, children will develop skills to resolve conflicts without fighting and to control their anger by focusing on helping rather than hurting others. They will also learn to develop "safety zone" perception and stranger awareness. (Fee does not include required
uniform. Purchase through www.karatedepot.com. Cost is $20 or less.) Parents are welcome and encouraged to join with their kids! For Ages 6 and up.  Family discounts apply to Beginner and Intermediate classes only-1st person in family paysfull amount, additional family members may take $15 off per person/ per session.
 
BEGINNER - White Belt Class: Sundays, 11 am - 12 pm** Fee: $50.00
**Class will be held from 2:30-3:30 PM at the Town Hall on April 11, 18, 25
Dates: March 21 - May 16 (no class on April 4)
 
INTERMEDIATE - Color Belts: Tuesdays & Thursdays, 5:30-6:30 pm Fee/ session: $80.00
