Water & Sewer Billing: Shelburne has a municipal water and sewer department. Bills are determined on water used during the previous quarter. Bills are sent out quarterly on February 1st, May 1st, August 1st and November 1st and payment is due by the end of the month.

New rates for municipal water and sewer usage will take effect with the quarterly billing you receive in August 2008. Please contact the Shelburne Water and Sewer Departments at 985-5120 if you have any questions.

The sewer user fee will increase to $9.61/thousand gallons effective with the August 2009 billing. This is an increase of $0.75/thousand gallons or 8.5%. Minimum quarterly bills will be based on 3,000 gallons of usage. The new rate will result in an annual increase of $30 for a customer using 40,000 gallons per year and $53 for a customer using 70,000 gallons per year. The increase is required due to necessary maintenance, capital improvements and debt payments.

The rate for water usage will increase to $4.94/thousand gallons effective with the August 2009 billing. This is an increase of $0.38/thousand gallons or 8.3%. Minimum quarterly bills will be based on 3,000 gallons of usage. The rate change is caused by increased wholesale water costs charged by Champlain Water District combined with lower user volumes. The Water Commission has applied a portion of the accumulated surplus to limit the magnitude of this increase. The new rate will result in an annual increase of $15 for a customer using 40,000 gallons per year and $27 for a customer using 70,000 gallons per year.

Average Water/Sewer gallon usage per customer continues to decrease, which also contributes to the rate increases. As a result, the actual increase in your quarterly bills may be less than the rate change percentages indicated above.

A penalty of 8% and interest of 1.5% per month is assessed on the amount due after it becomes delinquent. There is a 3,000 gallon minimum usage charge.

Water Commission: The Shelburne Water Commission is comprised of three members appointed by the Selectboard. Peter Gadue as chairman, Frank Cole and Laura Gannon-Murakami. The commission sets policy and the prices of public water delivery to Shelburne residents. The commission meets each month at the Town Office Building. Location & Staff: Plant #1 is located off Bay Road on Crown Road. Plant #2 is located on Harbor Road across for the Community School, next to the Highway Department building. Our staff includes Steve Williams, Walt Arsenault, Chris Huestis and Arthur Garrison.

Highway

Information: The Highway Department maintains all town owned streets. Maintenance includes paving and repair in the spring and summer salting and sanding and snow removal in the winter. This service is only provided on town owned streets. Property owners on privately owned streets must contract with private snow plowing services, and private road maintenance services.
