Assessing:

The Assessing Department produces the annual Grand List for the Town. Files for each individual real estate parcel in Shelburne are maintained here, as are copies of current Town of Shelburne parcel maps, also known as Tax Maps. These maps are not surveys, but they show boundary measurements based on prepared surveys recorded in the Town Clerk's Office, or boundary measurements calculated from deed descriptions.

Vermont Municipal Assessor's employees working in our office are: Spencer Potter, Mary Jane Potter and David Martin.


Reappraisal 2008 Booklets - May 1, 2008

The booklets have been mailed.  If you did not receive a booklet call our office or stop by the Town Offices to pick one up. This booklet represents the preliminary results of the 2008 Reappraisal of Shelburne.  The staff has reported that the people of Shelburne have been friendly and gracious during this process. Thank you for allowing the staff to inspect your homes and businesses.

Your help is needed in the next step in the reappraisal process.  The goals of the reappraisal are to have accurate data about your property and to list your property at 100% of market value as of April 1, 2008.  Staff will be available in the Town Offices to help you review your account on the following schedule.

If you find inaccurate factual data such as size of buildings, size of the land, number of fixtures, types of heat, etc., please let us know.  If you have information about your property's market value, such as a recent appraisal, please let us know.

If you have not had an appraisal done you may find the information in the Sales Binder in the Lister's Office will help you form an opinion of market value.  Staff will be available during the above hours to help.

While we understand that the market value is a subjective opinion, use of market data and comparable sales aids in determining value.  Information collected from this process will be used to review all assessments.  Following this review process, an individual formal "Change of Appraisal of Real Estate" will be mailed to you.  If you disagree with the new assessment in the formal notice, you will have to file a formal written Grievance.
