Assessing and Reappraisal Paul Bohne, III Town Manager, 985.5111 Elaine Eno Administrative Assistant, 985.5115 The Assessing Department produces the annual Grand List for the Town. Files for each individual real estate parcel in Shelburne are maintained here, as are copies of current Town of Shelburne parcel maps, also known as Tax Maps. These maps are not surveys, but they show boundary measurements based on prepared surveys recorded in the Town Clerk's Office, or boundary measurements calculated from deed descriptions. The 2008 reassessment of all Town properties is now complete and the 2008 Grand List has been lodged with the Town Clerk. All property owners have received their final notice of the new value of their property after the grievance period. The final date to appeal the Assessors determination of value was Friday, July 11. At this time, 154 property owners have appealed the assessor’s decision to the Board of Civil Authority (BCA). The BCA members are the 15 elected Justices of the Peace, the Selectboard and the Town Clerk. The BCA will soon be scheduling hearings on all appeals. Although those that have not grieved the value of their property or appealed to the BCA this year cannot do so for this fiscal year, as of April 1 of each year, property owners have the right to grieve the value of their property to the Assessor. If there are questions about process, property owners may call the Assessors office at 985-5115 or the Town Manager at 985-5111. All property owners are encouraged to inspect the factual information on file in the Assessor’s office to be sure that it is correct. If the Assessor agrees that there are errors, they can be corrected.
